Meet our Director, Jim Koenig
I am, by all definitions, a “barbershop brat”. My dad has been an avid member of barbershop and the Tower City Chorus for, dare I say, decades now. I grew up listening to barbershop music and had a keen interest in it although I did much more listening than singing. That all changed in 1995 when I enrolled at Bowling Green State University and began singing with the BGSU Men’s Chorus. Under the direction of RD Mathey I gained the knowledge that helped me take another step forward in barbershop music. After competing at two internationals with the varsity quartet Sometimes Five myself and three other friends from BGSU formed Catfish Bend. In the summer of 2002 Catfish Bend was crowned the International Collegiate Champions in Portland, OR. This is still one of the great thrills of my life. Directing the chorus over the last few months has been more of a pleasure than I could ever explain. I love the guys in the chorus and being able to give back just a little of what they have given me over some many years brings me great joy. However the greatest joy of my life is my wife Shelly, who has supported me fully all of these years and our “perfect” three daughters, Brianna, Grace, and Lily. I am truly blessed in every way.
